Almanak is an Amsterdam-based graphic design collaboration founded in 2011 by Barbara Hennequin, Jeremy Jansen and Rob van den Nieuwenhuizen as an alternative to the bigger design studios.
They had collaborated before on designing several books and identities, but the redesign of Dutch design magazine Items marked their 'official' start. Shortly after that they were invited to participate in the pitch for the HKU (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, one of Europe's largest art schools).
Besides their graphic endeavours, they co-founded a project and exhibition space called Depot BG at the ground floor of their studio building, where they organise and host a range of events. Both Jeremy Jansen and Rob van den Nieuwenhuizen teach Typography at, respectively, ArtEZ in Arnhem and the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague. Among the three of them they have given lectures at a.o. Zefir7 (The Hague), Otis (Los Angeles) and Pratt Institute (New York).
